~~SINGAPORE - Leighton Asia, India and Offshore, in a joint venture with John Holland Pty Limited, has been awarded a contract worth AUS329 million from the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) for the Thomson Line rail project. Construction will begin immediately for completion by 2020.

It is the second civil engineering project to be awarded to the Leighton-John Holland JV by LTA, following an AUD130 million contract in 2011 for construction of the Downtown Line Stage 3 – Jalan Besar Station. The contract covers construction of Springleaf station and two kilometres of twin- ored tunnel as part of the 30 km Thomson line railway consisting of 22 stations and six interchange stations. When completed, the Thomson Line will significantly reduce travel time for Singapore commuters.

Ian Edwards, Managing Director of Leighton Asia, India and Offshore, said the firm had developed a strong working relationship with the Singapore LTA. “With over 30 years’ experience in rail infrastructure in Hong Kong, the project supports our strategy of exporting our core competencies across the Asia region,” he added. www.laio.com (ATI).
