Cybersecurity: China orders inspections of encryption technology

January 2, 2020

BEIJING - China's new Encryption Law will regulate all types of encryption used in China and follows implementation on December 1 of what the State Council describes as the Multi-Level Protection Scheme 2.0 -- a cybersecurity law that expands on the types of IT systems requiring Government inspection.

Encryption technology relevant to national security, people's livelihoods and the public interest now needs to be inspected before it can be sold or made available, and such technologies, along with products offering "added secrecy", may be subject to import permits or export controls, according to media reports.
