MELBOURNE – Following a one-year trial, the Chinese city of Nanjing has extended its supply contract for waste management products from Melbourne-based Cardia Bioplastics Limited. The additional orders, worth AUD350,000 for kitchen waste bag supply to individual households, validates a forecast annual requirement worth AUD1 million.

Nanjing Jianye District is the first city district in China to commercially roll out an organic waste diversion programme using Cardia products. Cardia says Nanjing’s other district councils are at various stages of trial programmes, with several councils expected to progress to full-scale implementation. Nanjing houses six million people.

Cardia recently expanded its production capability with a new factory in Nanjing which will increase its compostable bag-making capacity to 100 million bags a year. Cardia supplies carry and waste management bags, hygiene and nappy films and custom products to markets in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Canada, the US, Brazil and the UK. www.cardiabioplastics.com (ATI).
