Urbanisation in China: The march continues
BEIJING – The number of permanent urban residents in China reached 810 million at the end of 2017, up by 640 million from 1978, with annual average growth of 16.44 million, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a report.
China Daily reported that the urbanisation rate stood at 58.52%, surging from 17.92% four decades ago.
A total of 16 cities boasted more than five million residents, according to household registration data.
