UK’s Taiwan representative office renamed

May 27, 2015

TAIPEI - The British Trade and Cultural Office in Taiwan has been rebranded as the British Office as part of UK Government efforts to better define the activities and functions of its representation in Taiwan.

No changes have been made to the role of the office, which includes providing services for UK citizens, promoting bilateral innovative and scientific collaboration, enhancing joint programmes tackling climate change, spurring two-way trade and attracting inbound investment to Britain.
UK Representative to Taiwan, Christopher Wood, said the new name better reflects the character and mission of the office. “People did not really understand what [BTCO] signified, and often did not recognise us as a Government office. Some thought we were simply a British company.”
The UK is Taiwan’s third-largest trading partner in Europe, with Taiwan investment in Britain reaching 715 million sterling, equal to 20% of Taiwan’s total investments in Europe as of December 2014. www.taiwantoday.tw (ATI).
