Toshiba to expand in SE Asia in bid to double sales

JAKARTA - Hisao Tanaka, President and CEO of Japan’s Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502), today announced Toshiba’s comprehensive strategy for expanding its business in Southeast Asia, including investing US$1 billion ain the region over the next five years, and doubling current sales to US$7 billion.

“Southeast Asia currently enjoys positive benefits Japan does not have, including high economic growth and a young, highly capable workforce,” he said
Tanaka said that, for Toshiba, Southeast Asia has long been a strategic manufacturing hub for Toshiba’s major businesses, and that, building on this, the company would shortly start up a new infrastructure business in Indonesia, part of a regional network it is putting in place. www.toshiba.co.jp/index.htm (ATI).
