International I&T hub to be built in Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis

October 21, 2021

HONG KONG -- Northern Hong Kong will be built into a 300-square-kilometre metropolis positioned as an international innovation and technology (I&T) hub. The Northern Metropolis will involve development of the San Tin Technopole.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council says this, together with the Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Zone, will form the Shenzhen-Hong Kong I&T Co-operation Zone, combining the strengths of both Hong Kong and Shenzhen to pool local and non-local talent and enhancing the integrated development of Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

Separately, the Guangdong provincial government has announced plans to develop the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone into a high-quality international connection hub supporting Mainland China's opening-up.

The hub is designed to deepen financial co-operation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and to support Hong Kong- and Macao-based private equity funds in participating in financing innovation enterprises in the zone.
