May 13, 2016

HONG KONG – With GDP decelerating to 0.8% year-on-year in Q1 (compared to 1.9% in Q4 and consensus expectations of 1.5% in Q1), Nataxis has revised its GDP forecast for Hong Kong downward from 1.8% to 1.0% in 2016, and says it may face recession in Q2 and Q3.

Nataxis says meagre growth in private consumption is barely supporting the economy when tourism, merchandize trade and investment are all shrinking. On a quarterly basis, Hong Kong GDP contracted by 0.4% qoq.  www.nataxis.com (ATI).
