Hong Kong-Australia Free Trade Agreement effective January 17

CANBERRA - The Free Trade Agreement signed recently between Hong Kong and Australia will .officially enter into force on January 17, 2020.

Raymond Fan, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trader Office in Australia, says the Agreement will provide Australian businesses wirh greater certainty to trade and investment activities in Hong Kong.  

He says zero tariffs will be locked-in on goods, market access will be guaranteed for services suppliers, and conditions for two-way investment will be significantly improved.  

Other benefits will include what he terms "facilitative arrangements" for business travel, as well as provisions for Hong Kong and Australia to facilitate access to each other's Government procurement markets. There will also be effective protection of intellectual property rights and promotion of competition.
