eCargo takes 85% of Metcash China export business

SHANGHAI - ECG, a China-based eCommerce technology company trading in China and Australia as eCargo, is to acquire 85% of Metcash's China export business.

Metcash supplies and supports more than 10,000 independent retailers and over 90,000 wholesale customers across the food, grocery, liquor and hardware industries in Australia and a number of supermarkets and retail groups in China.

It also operates cross-border e-Commerce stores in key platforms of Alibaba's Tmall Global and JD Worldwide.

ECG said the acquisition would enable ECG to create a one-stop offering for Australian businesses into China's consumer market.

It said the new combined business would offer -

eCommerce operations and content generation services;

An online incubation service forsmall and emerging brands;
A B2C multi-platform, multi-brand eCommerce hub for estsablished brands; and
A B2B wholesale distributor in 1st to 4th tier cities with tailored market activisation strategy.

ECG's Executive Chairman, John Lau, said the Metcash supply agreement gave ECG access to quality Australian products at competitive prices, enabling access to key offline wholesale distribution channels in China particularly outside the Tier 1 and 2 cities. www.eCargo.com (ATI).
