Bangladesh 'BB-/B' ratings affirmed; Outlook stable

August 25, 2021

DHAKA - The Bangladesh economy is gradually recovering, although COVID-19 risks to fiscal and external metrics are likely to persist over the coming year, according to ratings agency Standard and Poors.

Bangladesh's resilient economy contrasts against the sovereign's weak revenue generation capacity, which is likely to limit fiscal consolidation progress, S&P says in a ratings update.

S&P has affirmed its 'BB-' long-term and 'B' short-term sovereign credit ratings on Bangladesh.

"The stable outlook reflects our expectation that the country's healthy growth prospects will overcome risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic over the next 12 months," it says.
