QF 787-9 fleet to go to 14 as 747s retire

QANTAS has ordered six additional Boeing 787-9s for its international network, to bring its fleet of Dreamliners to 14 by the end of 2020.

Arrival of the new aircraft will enable the airline to accelerate retirement of its last six Boeing 747s – an aircraft type that has been in its fleet since 1971.

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said: “This really is the end of one era and the start of another.

“The jumbo has been the backbone of Qantas International for more than 40 years and we’ve flown almost every type that Boeing built.

Strong market sees profit lift for Vietnam Airlines in first quarter

HANOI – Reporting a pre-tax consolidated group profit of VIN1.46 trillion for the first quarter, Vietnam Airlines says growth in Vietnam’s aviation sector in the first months of 2018 exceeded forecasts for both domestic and international routes, creating a market of 16.6 million passengers.

For the quarter, Vietnam Airlines operated nearly 33,000 flights, up 4.3 % over the same period last year, and transported 5 million passengers - 5 % more than in the same period last year.
