South Korea’s Acting President vows to maintain stable national security, State affairs, business

SEOUL – South Korea’s Acting President and Prime Minister, Hwang Kyo-ahn, has expressed his unwavering determination to maintain state affairs and uphold a stable stance regarding national security following the impeachment of President Park Guen-hye.

In a public address at the Government Complex-Seoul, the Acting President described vacancies in the management of State affairs at a time of national crisis as unacceptable. “I will put every ounce of my energy into bringing State affairs under stable management no matter how difficult the situation may be,” he said.

He also said he would take upon himself the responsibilities of Acting President in a solemn manner and devote himself to manage State affairs in a transparent manner, while vowing to humbly listen to the voices of citizens.

With regard to the possibility of North Korean provocation, he said : “North Korea has continued its nuclear tests and missile provocations in order to enhance their sophistication. While retaining a watertight national defence posture, the Government will work closely with the international community to thoroughly respond to the North Korean nuclear problem.”

Hwang  also vowed to work hard to carry out diplomatic policies without disruption.
“By actively responding to these changes, the Gvernment will strive to protect national interests, including the enhancement of co-operative ties with friendly nations, such as the Korea-U.S. alliance,”  he said.

In reference to the financial and business sectors, he said: “To begin with, the Government will endeavour to stabilise financial and foreign exchange markets and maintain Korea’s sovereign rating.

“To this end, the current emergency response framework for the economy will be further strengthened, which will allow us to actively respond to various risk factors and swiftly deal with changes in the situation.

“The Government will do its utmost to recover the economic slowdown and generate more jobs.”  www.koreanet.com (ATI).
