Shenzhen to build pilot demonstration area for socialism with Chinese characteristics

BEIJING - A peak Chinese Communist Party Committee headed by President Xi Jinping has pledged support for Shenzhen, adjacent to Hong Kong, in building a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

China's State Newsagency, Xinhua, reports that the ninth meeting of the Central Committee for Comprehensively Deepening Reform (CCCDR), China's most powerful policymaking body, reviewed and approved 11 official documents, including the one referring to Shenzhen.

Other policies, according to the report, included the goals of strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights (IPR); establishing an internet management system;  and building a demonstration area for economic co-operation between China and the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO), as part of the Belt and Road Initiative.
