Myanmar IP Bills advance to People's Parliament

February 21, 2018

RANGOON - Pending IP legislation  in Myanmar on copyright, trademarks, industrial designs, and patents were passed by the National Parliament on February 15 in a development which signals movement of the Bills from the Myanmar National Parliament to the People’s Parliament, where final revisions may be made.

Lawyers Baker McKenzie say this is the furthest stage to which the four IP bills have advanced in the legislative process since they were first announced.

“After this point, pending any protracted discussions, we anticipate the Bills to be approved and eventually endorsed by the President as laws,” BM says in a Client Alert.

“The precise timeline remains uncertain, but it appears that these laws will be passed imminently.”  www.bakermckenzie.com (ATI).
