Korea, Indonesia to pursue “comprehensive partnership"

SEOUL – In talks here, South Korea’s President, Park Geun-hye, and Indonesia’s President, Joko Widodo, have agreed to further extend bilateral co-operation to develop a comprehensive partnership, widening areas of co-operation beyond simply business to include other sectors.

The two leaders agreed to encourage Korean companies to participate in infrastructure construction projects in Indonesia in the energy and transportation sectors, worth some USS 6.7 billion.

The two governments signed a total of 11 memorandums of understanding, eight covering the economy, including a gas pipeline construction project in Palembang and in Bali, and the Jakarta Light Rail Transit project. Others covered the creative industries, and the marine and environmental sectors.

During the joint press conference, President Park said Korea and Indonesia had agreed that both countries should strengthen co-operation to generate new engines of economic growth.  www.koreanet.com (ATI).
