Huawei to invest $436m in own computing ecosystem
SHANGHAI - Huawei is accelerating the construction of a computing ecosystem for both its own infrastructure and its partners, according to a report in Caixin.
It says Huawei's "Kunpeng" is already well known for its server chips, but over the next five years Huawei will invest RMB 3 billion (US$436 million) in Kunpeng to allow Huawei and its partners to "build a computing ecosystem around Kunpeng" and then provide infrastructure and applications such as cloud services that are based on Kunpeng processors.
The move comes as part of Huawei's heavy investments in R&D to preserve its tech independence, Caixin says. (www.webershandwick.cn (ATI).
