Game industry revenue surges to US$14.5 billion in China

SHANGHAI – Game industry revenue in China surged more than 20% to almost RMB100 billion (USS14.5 billion) for the first time between January and June, amid a booming mobile Internet development and cross-industry integration, industry officials told a Chinajoy forum.

 In the first six months, China’s game industry revenue hit RMB 99.8 billion, up 21.6% year-on-year or 10 times from a decade ago. Of the total, mobile game revenue hit RMB56.1 billion, up 49.8% year-on-year, according to a 2017 Gaming Industry Report, Shanghai Daily reported.

By June, there were more than 507 million gamers in China, 3.6% growth year-on-year, according to the report.

“Gaming is standing at the crossroads of art and technology. We are offering various products with culture and happiness feeling beyond entertainment only,” Ding Lei, Chairman and CEO of NetEase, told the forum.  www.webershandwick.cn (ATI).
