BEIJING - Chinese Vice-Premier Liu Yandong says that as robotics becomes increasingly intertwined with AI, big data and other technologies, the sector will play a significant role in driving economic growth in China.

"In the future, robots will no longer just be a tool to boost productivity but an advanced, smart assistant to humans, ushering in a new era of intelligent transformation," Liu said at the opening ceremony of the 2017 World Robot Conference in Beijing.

Her remarks came after China unveiled in July a national development plan to build a RMB1 trillion (US$147.9 billion) AI core industry by 2030, with which it plans to stimulate as much as RMB10 trillion in related businesses, China Daily reported.

The application of AI technologies in robotics is an integral part of that ambitious goal in China, the report added.  www.webershandwick.cn (ATI).
