China seeks to become global leader in sports

BEIJING - China's State Council this week released new guidelines designed to help China become a leading sports power.

The guidelines states that "China should become a modern leading sports socialist country by 2050, and its people's physical fitness, comprehensive levels, and global influence in sports should be ranked near the top globally".

The Government said it will boost broader support for the industry - such as constructing new sports facilities - while also supporting private companies to further enter the sports industry. www.webershandwickcn (ATI).
