China’s Ctrip formalises name change as it eyes global expansion
SHANGHAI - China's leading online travel operator, Ctrip, is to officially change its name from "Ctrip.com International, Ltd." to "Trip.com Group Ltd."
Caixin reports that Ctrip first proposed the new name in its second-quarter results announcement, released last month.
Chairman James Liang said the new name "can be easily remembered by global users", reflecting the company's ambition to achieve the widespread brand recognition of international competitors like Expedia and Priceline.
Ctrip's international arm generated more than 35% of the company's total revenue in the second quarter. www.webershandwick.cn (ATI).
