American Airlines reports record second quarter profit, declares first dividend since 1980

NEW YORK - American Airlines Group, the holding company for American Airlines and US Airways, has announced a second quarter 2014 non-GAAP net profit (excluding net special charges) of US$1.5 billion, a record for any quarter in the history of American Airlines. Second quarter 2014 GAAP net profit was a record $864 million.

Ascott widening serviced residence footprint across China

SINGAPORE - CapitaLand’s wholly-owned serviced residence business unit, Ascott, has crossed a milestone of 35,000 apartment units globally as it steps up its growth in China, securing contracts to manage more than 900 apartment units in Taiyuan, Beijing, Shanghai and Dalian.The 170-unit Ascott Taiyuan is slated to open in 2018, the 195-unit Ascott Riverside Garden Beijing and 342-unit Somerset Sunland Shanghai in 2016. An existing 195-unit property in Dalian has been rebranded as the Somerset Grand Central Dalian.

Melbourne Airport international passengers up 11.3% in May

MELBOURNE - Melbourne Airport total international passengers increased 11.3% in May 2014 compared with 2013 to reach 603,000 passengers. Japan saw 104.8% growth with Jetstar's new Melbourne-Narita service starting in April. Other North East Asian countries performed particularly strongly, the region up 24.9% for the period, including China, up 17.3% which is the strongest growth for 2014 excluding Chinese New Year.
