BANGKOK - Bangkok Airways this week took delivery of the first of nine ATR 72-600 aircraft at a special ceremony in Toulouse, France. The other eight will be delivered through to 2017, joining the airline’s existing fleet of ATR 72-500s on domestic and regional services.

SINGAPORE - SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, is to launch direct flights between Singapore and Cairns from May next year, subject to regulatory approvals. The services will be operated with SilkAir’s latest Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with both Business and Economy class cabins.
GENEVA - Growth in international air passenger numbers improved in August with a rise of 4.5% compared to a year ago, up on the July result of 2.6%, according to IATA. Premium and economy passenger numbers rose at the same rate, 4.5%.
TOKYO - Japan Airlines and American Airlines will expand their codeshare on Brazil routes operated by AA from October 26, adding a codeshare flight from Los Angeles to Sao Paulo. Existing JAL/AA codeshare flights to Brazil operate via New York and Dallas Fort Worth. www.jal.com (ATI).
GENEVA - The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released its first 20-year passenger growth forecast, projecting that passenger numbers will reach 7.3 billion by 2034. That represents 4.1% average annual growth in demand for air connectivity that will result in more than a doubling of the 3.3 billion passengers expected to travel this year.
